Curatorial note

A mixed-metal object from a pair, this piece shows Los Castillo's married-metal technique applied across matching tableware. The firm joined copper, brass, and silver in one surface, a method Morrill records among its characteristic work (Morrill, p. 98).

The design lives in the meeting of the metals, their color and seams carrying the surface without figure or stone. Los Castillo, founded in Taxco by Antonio Castillo in 1939, held to improving its designs rather than repeating them (Morrill, p. 91).

Mixed-metal objects of this kind surface from time to time, and a pair documents how the workshop carried the technique across a set.
