Fish-Motif Footed Dish with Amethyst

A fish carried across a footed object and accented with amethyst joins Los Castillo's stonework to the aquatic subjects within the firm's vocabulary of animals from the natural world (Morrill, p. 92).

The purple amethyst supplies the object's color against the metal, while the foot raises the form. Los Castillo, founded in Taxco by Antonio Castillo in 1939, held that it would never repeat itself, refining detail instead (Morrill, p. 91).
