Curatorial note

A twisted silver ribbon hanging within a circular frame gives these earrings their movement, the worked ribbon catching light against the clean ring that holds it. The design plays a fluid, twisting form against a simple geometric surround.

The twisted ribbon is the kind of linear silver gesture Spratling used to bring life to small jewelry, the circular frame providing the order against which the ribbon's motion registers. Worked entirely in silver, the earrings rely on form and finish rather than added color.

As silver earrings built on the contrast of a moving element within a fixed frame, they belong to the workshop's lighter jewelry, where a single well-handled silver form made the piece.
