Curatorial note

A brooch built around a crowned silver pyramid, joined to a looped band carrying a single incised line, shows the early Taxco workshop composing from abstract solids rather than figures. The pyramid, topped with a crown, is the focal form, the looped band giving it a setting. The crowned pyramid was a design Spratling carried across formats, also made as a bracelet and a ring. The piece is recorded in Penny Morrill's William Spratling and the Mexican Silver Renaissance: Maestros de Plata.

It dates from the first design period, 1931 to 1946, the founding years of Spratling's Las Delicias taller.

That a single motif moved between brooch, bracelet, and ring reflects the modular habit of the workshop, and a documented appearance in a major reference anchors the crowned-pyramid design in the record.
