Three Ball Silver Ring

A ring set with three vertical balls, each marked with an incised circle and the larger center ball flanked by two silver beads on each side, carries a workshop name: it was known as a Vindobonesis style, a name also given to a matching bracelet. The little balls were formed by hand from melted wire rings (Morrill, p. 36), and here they are stacked vertically and articulated with incised circles, the single striation of the band finishing the design.

The ring dates from the first design period, 1931 to 1946, the founding years of Spratling's Las Delicias taller in Taxco.

A named style shared between a ring and a bracelet points to the workshop's habit of designing in suites, and the Vindobonesis name gives collectors a specific term to anchor the form.
