Sugar Shovel with a Rosewood Handle

This sugar shovel joins the workshop's flatware line, its silver bowl paired with a rosewood handle, metal set against the warm grain of exotic wood.

The combination of silver and rosewood ran through Spratling's table pieces, the contrast Morrill places alongside Puiforcat's use of rosewood handles against reflective silver (Morrill, p. 224). On a small serving piece the pairing keeps the object both useful and composed.

The shovel was produced in two sizes; this is the smaller. It is recorded in Spratling Silver by Cederwall and Riney.
