Bow Brooch with a Dangling Heart

A bow with a dangling heart, made as a silver brooch, is the brooch companion to a matching pair of earrings, a light sentimental design from the workshop's wide everyday range.

The bow form comes entirely from the working of the silver into a furled ribbon, the kind of metal-led design the workshop favored over applied ornament. That a matching earring was also made reflects Spratling's habit of carrying a successful design across object types.

The brooch dates to the First Design Period, 1931 to 1946.
