Curatorial note

A child's spoon with a silver bowl and a rosewood handle, made as part of a set: this is Spratling's wood-and-silver vocabulary scaled to a child's hand. It dates to the First Design Period of 1931 to 1946.

The rosewood-and-silver pairing is the same one that defined Spratling's adult flatware, applied here to a children's piece so that the youngest place setting matched the rest of the table. The small scale required no change to the design language.

Children's flatware from the founding decade is among the more personal and less common survivals from Spratling's early production.
