Lidded Traditional Sugar Bowl

A lidded sugar bowl in a traditional form, fitted with silver handles, this is Spratling working an all-silver serving piece rather than his usual wood-and-silver pairing. It belongs to the First Design Period of 1931 to 1946.

The traditional shape and the all-silver handles set it apart from the rosewood-handled hollowware that became his signature, showing the range within his early output. The covered form placed it at the center of a coordinated service.

Early all-silver lidded hollowware from the founding decade of the Taxco revival comes to market only occasionally.
