Bracelet with Malachite Cabochons, Roped Links, and Silver Beads

This bracelet stands among the documented examples of Héctor Aguilar's gem-set work, recorded in Gobi Stromberg's Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda (2008, p. 97, plate 44). That a piece of Aguilar's reaches the published literature places it within the studied core of mid-century Taxco silver, and its survival with a clear maker's mark makes it a reliable reference point for his use of color and stone.

The design is built from alternating large green malachite oval cabochons, each set within a roped silver bezel, connected by silver beads. Prominent malachite stones and smaller spherical silver elements alternate in a continuous, flexible band, so the bracelet keeps its movement around the wrist while the stones supply rhythm and color against the metal.

The combination is characteristic of the approach Aguilar developed at the Taller Borda, the Taxco workshop he led from the late 1930s, where substantial hand-wrought silver was paired with strong materials rather than fine filigree. Here the saturated green of the malachite, framed in roped bezels, gives the band its weight and presence.

The piece carries the hallmark H.A.J. 940, the Taxco mark, and an eagle 3 stamp. Documented, marked, and gem-set, it sits among the more collectible expressions of Aguilar's bracelet work.
