Central-Medallion Bracelet with Turquoise and Coral

Worked silver set with turquoise and coral, this bracelet shows the MATL workshop's reliance on inlaid color over plain metal. The taste for stone set into silver grew from Matilde Poulat's post-Revolution turn toward a Mexican aesthetic drawn from Pre-Conquest and pueblo art, after her early painting training at the San Carlos Academy (Morrill, p. 216).

The turquoise and coral reflect the taller's hand craft. Ricardo Salas, who worked alongside his aunt from the age of eleven, perfected the carving and setting of coral, turquoise, and other stones for the firm's jewelry (Morrill, p. 216).
