Furled Ribbon Earrings

A silver ribbon band, furled at its base, makes up these earrings, the flat strip of metal curling back on itself so the form comes entirely from how the silver is bent.

The furled ribbon was a shape the workshop used across pieces; a very similar pin was made to the same idea. The design is modern silver in its purest sense, ornament arising from the working of the metal rather than from applied decoration or stone.

The earrings belong to the First Design Period, 1931 to 1946, and are recorded in Mexican Silver Jewelry: The American School 1930-1960.
