Gold Wash Double Jigger

A double shot cup, gold-washed inside each bowl, turns a barware object into a small exercise in contrast, the warm gilt interior glowing against plain silver walls. The jigger form is purely functional, but the gold wash is the kind of finishing touch that marks it as Spratling's rather than generic.

The design was among the silver Spratling sent on the road in the 1965 traveling exhibition The World of William Spratling, which toured American museums and drew on his own collection of Pre-Columbian and other art (Morrill, p. 77). It carried a 1967 catalogue price and is recorded in the Cederwall and Riney Spratling Silver, in Morrill and Berk's Mexican Silver, and in La Platería Mexicana.

The design has since been reissued. Period barware in silver survives less often than jewelry, and the double-cup format with gold wash is a recognizable Spratling model.
