Curatorial note

A pepper shaker of shaped rosewood, topped with silver and ringed at the base by eight silver balls - the turned wood body framed top and bottom by the workshop's silver beadwork. Part of a set, it was made as one of a pair.

The rosewood against silver follows the material contrast Morrill associates with Spratling's affinity for Puiforcat (p. 224), the warm wood softening the table object.

The design has been reissued. The shaker is recorded in Goddard's Spratling Silver: A Field Guide.
