Curatorial note

A hammered silver creamer rests on a domed base, its handle a single band of silver opening into a "V" at the top, the matching companion to the open sugar bowl in the same line.

Holloware like this was hand-raised in the workshop, the hammered surface a record of the metal being worked by hand. Morrill notes that Spratling's silver continued to be hand-wrought by techniques that altered little across the years (Morrill, p. 251).

The creamer is recorded in Penny C. Morrill and Carole A. Berk's Mexican Silver: 20th Century Handwrought Jewelry & Metalwork, the standard reference for the period. Table pieces of this restraint show the workshop's modern approach to form, paring an everyday object down to a clean profile.
