Curatorial note

V-shaped silver bands set with five azur malachite cabochons give this bracelet its rhythm, the blue-green stone counted out across a chevron structure. Malachite, here primarily azurite, was among the semi-precious materials Spratling favored, the same stone that appeared in the Alaska project models and his "North Star" variations (Morrill, p. 66).

The bracelet belongs to the first design period, 1931-1946, when the workshop set cabochons of Mexican semi-precious stone against heavy handwrought silver. The repeating V and the row of stones make ornament from structure.

First-period malachite bracelets of this kind survive in limited numbers.
