Mixed metal, chrysocolla inlay and a hammered silverplate body bring three Los Castillo devices together in one pitcher, the workshop's love of layered surfaces made explicit. The married metals, the blue-green stone and the textured ground each pull against the others.
Morrill documents the taller's married-metal work in copper, brass and silver (Morrill, p. 98) alongside its interest in combining metal with stone (Morrill, p. 206). This pitcher draws on both.
Los Castillo, founded in Taxco in 1939, was among the talleres grandes whose scale supported decoration this elaborate (Stromberg, p. 41). Such pitchers surface only occasionally and are collected as decorative objects.
