Curatorial note

A smooth round silver button is design reduced to almost nothing, and that is its interest: the early Taxco workshop trusted a plain polished dome to carry a piece on proportion and finish alone. The form was versatile, made in a larger size as well and adapted into cufflinks.

The button belongs to the Spratling vocabulary of the simple sphere and disc, the same elemental shapes that recur across the workshop's jewelry. With no ornament to hide behind, the quality is all in the surface.

That a single form moved between buttons of two sizes and cufflinks shows how the workshop thought in adaptable modules, and collectors value these plain pieces as the building blocks of the larger design language.
