Curatorial note

An open sugar bowl and creamer in the Volteo pattern, fitted with rosewood handles, pair Spratling's hollowware with the wood-against-silver contrast he favored in his table service. The dark rosewood set against bright metal is the combination Morrill links to Jean Puiforcat's influence on Spratling (Morrill, p. 224).

As a named pattern, Volteo identifies a coordinated line of table silver rather than a one-off, the kind of matched service the workshop produced for the home.

Open sugar-and-creamer sets in this pattern survive in modest numbers.
