Curatorial note

A heavy, shaped silver service plate with a wide rim and five raised circles, its surface still carrying the evidence of hand hammering - the marks of the raising process left visible rather than polished away. The five discs are the plate's ornament, the applied silver circle recurring here as it does across the workshop's holloware.

The design was also made as an eight-inch soup plate and a five-and-a-half-inch bread plate, a graded service rather than a single object. It belongs to the first design period, when Spratling's table silver carried the hand-wrought character of the Las Delicias workshop.

With no scholarly reference recorded, the plate is documented through its place in the workshop's service forms.
